I have learnt and accepted that I am accountable to me and if I cheat I am only cheating myself but when I succeed I have myself to thank! I am dedicated and focussed and can achieve anything that I set my mind to, nothing is off limits. I took this journey one day at a time to reach the top of the mountain, then looked around at how far I’d come BUT I will never forget where I started as I won’t be going back there!
Before
After
I changed my lifestyle in the following ways:
Here's what I did:
I now view food as a source of fuel for my body and not my best friend, I track and monitor portions & fill up on lots of fresh fruit & vegies. I love exercising & factor this into my weekly planning, around activities that my children are involved in. I go for a walk and jog every morning, I love starting off my day with exercise. Recently I started a journal to capture my thoughts & feelings about food & exercise I enjoy reflecting on it. I surround myself with positive & likeminded people.
Weight loss isn't just about me, it also impacted the people around me.
My family have been amazing right from the start. My two children have learnt the importance of eating a variety of foods but some foods are occasional foods. I have been able to set a good example to them of healthy & positive lifestyle choices that they can take through their own life journey. My son could never wrap his arms fully around me & used this as his gauge he'd comment that he could touch his fingertips behind my back, then his wrists and his elbows as I continued to lose weight.
Motivation kept me going!
Having a lot of weight to lose was very daunting for me so I broke it down into 5kg goals. Each time I reached 5kg I would celebrate my achievements and reward myself with a prizes: shoes, WW magazine subscription, handbags, jewellery & when I reached 50kg loss my prize was a cappuccino machine. Aside from these prizes that I gave myself the compliments that I received from people was very motivating. I’d not received genuine compliments for such a long time it felt nice to hear.
There are things I can do now that I could never do before
I can do anything I want to now and have recently been rock climbing, something I would never have done before. I can run (something in the past I had only reserved in case of a fire). I smile at the little things also like the huge amount of space there is when the tray is down while sitting in an aeroplane, wrap a standard bath towel around me, sit next to someone and there be plenty of room between us. I can go shopping now and buy anything off the rack that I like, rather than what fits
Losing weight is not always a serious business
I recently went clothes shopping with my daughter and she tired quickly of trying on clothes. When I suggested a shirt for her to try on she told me that I should try it on and if it looked good on me she’d have it because it would fit her (a huge compliment from a teenager), little did she know that she made my month!
