Words of Wisdom

To never give up. If I made a choice I regretted, I would start again from the very next meal or snack. I never lost sight of my final goal because of a bad choice, day or week. I've had two very different parts to my journey, the first part (with only one child) was totally focused and perfect, then after a pregnancy the second journey started with a 6 week old baby and was totally different. I literally had to start again at every meal, try not to beat myself up, and just keep going!

Your Journey

I changed my lifestyle in the following ways:

  • Food
  • Exercise
  • Behaviour
  • Supportive environment

Here's what I did:

I have made changes to all aspects of my life, physically, mentally, and emotionally. I never see food as good or bad now, only as low points or high points food. Mum and I didn't allow ourselves to talk and dream of our old "treats" knowing this would impact us negatively. My home support was incredible and we all helped to keep each other accountable. My husband and I have started entering walking and biking events that we participate in with our boys watching and cheering us on.

Weight loss isn't just about me, it also impacted the people around me.

My husband and I share a house with my Mum, and my husband, although slim, suffered from high cholesterol. This is now right down and in a normal range. My Mum ended up losing 17kg as the same time as me! I always used to say that we had decided to use our power for good, not evil. We no longer sat on the couch eating 2 or 3 chocolate bars (as we couldn't decide on what flavour to have!) and instead we supported each other by checking that we had all had time to exercise by the end of the day.

Your Achievements

Motivation kept me going!

I stayed motivated through weight loss by breaking down my losses into 5kg segments. When I hit each 5kg mark I bought myself a new Weight Watchers recipe book to help me along the way. I also bought the WW kitchen scales as another big reward. All my rewards were tools to help me achieve my final goal, and to keep up my lifestyle after goal. My biggest reward was going to weigh in and realizing that if I stuck with the plan then I was guaranteed to loose weight!!

There are things I can do now that I could never do before

I can now sit comfortably in an airplane seat, sit comfortably in the bath, RUN! Chase my boys, walk up a hill without dying, feel like One Hot Mamma when I'm all dressed up going out! Buy fashionable, beautiful clothes that cost lots of money and know I'm going to get the wear out of them! I can trust myself that I will never go back to my previous weight, and I can trust myself that I now have the skills and tools to maintain this weight for the rest of my life.

Losing weight is not always a serious business

A highlight during my journey was going shopping with my 2.5 year old. I tried on a beautiful top I would never have been able to fit before, and he looked up at me in the changing room, gasped and said "Mummy! You're a beautiful Fairy!!" I'll never forget that feeling.
